Castle of the Popes, in Avignon, Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur region, southeastern France. Avignon was the capital of the papacy from 1309 to 1377, and was papal property until the French Revolution.

La Porte Cailhau, Place du Palais, in Bordeaux. It was constructed in 1495 to celebrate the victory of King Charles VIII at Fornoue. Bordeaux is also famous for its wines.
